One of the finest pianists of his generation, having recorded thirteen albums as a leader, Joey Calderazzo has traveled the road from child prodigy to in-demand session musician to elite member of the best ensembles in jazz. He has accompanied musical geniuses from Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis to Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland. Throughout his journey, Calderazzo has boldly explored his own psyche and his place in the world as a composer, improviser, band member and leader.
Landing in New York City in the 1980s, Joey Calderazzo immediately established himself among the best U.S. jazz piano talents and began his long collaboration with the celebrated saxophonist Michael Brecker. Concurrently, Joey performs and records as a soloist with partners such as John Patitucci, Jeff Tain Watts, Peter Erskine, and Antonio Sanchez, and collaborates as a sideman with leading figures in black music, from Jerry Bergonzi to Bob Mintzer and Rick Margitza. In 1998 Joey inaugurated a very happy partnership with the great New Orleans saxophonist Brandford Marsalys that persists to this day. Showmanship, class, superfine touch and great sense of swing are the gifts that characterize his pianism also endowed with great lyricism and expressive depth.
